Berlin Democracy Day 2020

As part of Berlin’s Democracy Day on 15. Sept. 2020, Black Earth contributed with a postcolonial perspective on the climate crisis.
“Berlin is considered a green capital not only because of its many parks, but also because many Berliners* advocate a sustainable lifestyle and have a strong environmental awareness. But are Berliners* also aware of the racist and postcolonial dimension of the ongoing environmental destruction? This is what we want to find out in interactive interviews and bring together questions of German colonial history, climate change and racism and show the far-reaching implications of environmental destruction. After all, a democracy thrives on strong civic engagement and education provides the basis for this.”
